Non-fictional novels aren't exactly my favorite reading material, but I have read one or two. In eighth grade, my English class was assigned to read The Diary of Anne Frank. After reading the diary I suddenly felt extremely lucky to be alive. Anne Frank was a teenager when she died in Auschwitz during WWI, and there I was sitting in my room safe and sound. Anne Frank's diary humbled me in a way and made me realize that life is too short and as long as we are alive we should embrace our family and our beliefs.
I have also recently read a biography of Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn was such a beautiful person, not only in appearance but her heart was good too. In her photographs and films, Audrey Hepburn seemed to be the happiest girl alive, she seemed flawless. Her dresses were without wrinkle, a hair was never out of place, she lacked nothing; or so I thought. Audrey Hepburn was extremely self conscious. By looking at her you would never guess that she hated her nostrils, despised her "skinny neck" and was embarrassed of her crooked teeth. Audrey also endured a rough childhood. She grew up in the Netherlands during WWII and lived through starvation and caught edema and hepatitis as a child. In her life she had 4 miscarriages and married 3 times. All these horrible things in her life never showed through her phphotographs. You could never tell from watching Funny Face or My Fair Lady that she had such a hard life. The people that seem to have everything in life could be suffering just like you. You cannot judge by pictures or other people's opinions. Everybody has a story.
