In The Box Man, the author  tells of  loneliness.  To some there is only one definition of loneliness, but in The Box Man, the audience is exposed to a  different perspective.

There are lonely people everywhere. But what makes the Box Man stand out is that he is voluntarily alone. He is absolutely content going solo day after day. It is implied that the Box Man had never really "had" anybody to begin with and should someone try to befriend him, he would not communicate back. He has only ever been alone and prefers it that way, unlike the woman at the coffee shop. The author insinuates that she has family and she used to have a social life of some sort and in her solitude she longs for the past. There used to be people in her life but they have all vanished. The difference between the Box Man and the woman at the coffee shop is that the woman misses what she used to posses and all that she knew. The Box Man knows what he knows, he has what he has and that is all he needs.

  1. I think you missed the purpose of this prompt - to find two ironically similar yet different things and compare/contrast them.
